I missed her birthday party on my first chemo session and now everyone in our circle was looking forward to her son’s baptism. LL is my college BFF together with the best friend who is now in the US Army (yes, we all are BFF’s believe it or not!!!). “Don’t tell a soul okay? And I’ll talk to you later, LL’s here now.” She and I share a lot of things together, and though she has called New York her home for more than a decade, she is never far from our childhood playground. In a few minutes, my phone rang, New York was calling. I sent my email to JG, my childhood friend, telling her about my condition. June 24 is also the shared birthday of both BFF’s to whom I broke the news last Monday. June 24 was my first session of chemotherapy. Last Monday was an action packed day indeed because before I shipped my son at night to my mom’s room some forty steps away from mine, I told the last of my girlfriends who did not yet know about my conditions.

I keep on praying to God to let the rain pour softly… Lest the waters pour down on our roof and right to our neighbor’s living room. It is raining as I write, and the handyman isn’t due to come until tomorrow. The discussion ended amicably and I thank God for it. I assured him that I would bring the matter up to my mom and that we would find a solution to the problem ASAP. I thanked him for his neighborly call and for approaching me in a polite manner (though I could hear the understandable frustration in his voice). Obviously the problem couldn’t be solved right away, and if only their living room hadn’t been flooded. I looked out my bedroom window and could see what he was talking about. He described to me in detail the workings of our roof and how it has caused them a grave inconvenience. The neighbor was obviously trying to suppress his exasperation over the overflow which has reached their living room. This has caused rain which is supposed to flow on our property to overflow to our understandably distressed neighbor’s house. Now because part of our house was renovated last summer, the flow of the rain above our roof has taken a different course because of the new addition to our house. Where do I begin? Okay, let me try to describe it this way: There is about a 2-2.5 foot distance between the roofs of neighbor’s house and ours. If this wasn’t enough, by the time the rain slowed down, our neighbor who lives at the back of our property called. Thank God!!!Īt around 3 in the afternoon, Friday, the heavy rain caused the water in our small property to rise. Within the next hours until evening, my son’s temperature normalized to 36.5C. He further prescribed an immunostimulant and observe my son further. After lunch, my son and his former nanny (who is now my mom’s staff), went to the neighborhood hospital to have the tests taken. J replied and instructed me to have my son’s CBC and urinalysis taken.

My son came home by lunch time, as it was the last day of 2nd quarter exams. But I try as I might, I couldn’t help but being extremely anxious. I stayed in the kitchen at this sleepy hour and did my miracle hour.īy 6 o’clock, my son’s fever abated and he was ready to go to school. J to respond immediately as it was not yet even daybreak!

J, who was in the capital city at this time. At four in the morning, I was aghast to see 38.1 on the thermometer! But in the middle of the night, I would periodically awaken and take his temperature. My son and I were happily “united” that evening. Thursday, when he came home his temperature was 36.8. By Wednesday night, his temperature normalized to a consistent 36.5 and he was feeling antsy from staying home and missing out on life, he actually wanted to attend class (this is for a boy who used to hate school).

Wednesday he also stayed in but I asked him not to use the computer nor watch TV (to give him a chance to solve his own boredom problems). I let him stay in on Tuesday so as not to exacerbate the low grade fever and to isolate him from his schoolmates who might be having the monsoon’s flu. Good thing my mom who took care of him then lives in the building across our old house my son’s isolation was really isolation, but we were just a stone’s throw away. I had to isolate him ASAP, which he took badly and for which I felt bad. Last week, was a busy week: Last Monday evening, when my son came home from school, he temperature was febrile. My son reading For Richer For Poorer while waiting for my mom and bro at the airportĪ lot has happened since my last entry.
